OSTEOCARE

Kidney Specialists of Minnesota initiated the Osteocare program in 1995 in response to the growing number of patients with Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease that affects millions of Americans, mainly women, over the age of 50. Patients with kidney diseases may be at higher risk for developing Osteoporosis because of calcium abnormalities and use of steroid medications.

Osteocare provides state of the art bone density measurement using duel energy X-Ray absorptiometry (DEXA). This technique provides greater precision with reduced X-Ray exposure and increased stability without repeat scans. The KSM physician reviews the patient health questionnaire, DEXA results, and then interprets the results for the referring physicians. A letter is then sent to the referring physicians with the results of the DEXA scan and treatment recommendations.
